Patrol Division

The Patrol Division is the
largest unit of the Wellesley Police Department. Its primary
responsibility is to provide uniformed law enforcement service to the community.
Generally, the first contact a
citizen has with a member of the Wellesley Police Department is with
a uniformed officer. This initial contact will leave a citizen with a lasting
impression of the
police department. It is important that our officers are courteous and act in a
professional manner.
The Patrol Division responds to a
wide variety of calls for service. Types of calls include
motor vehicle accidents, house and business alarms, domestic disturbances,
suspicious persons,
and much more. While much of a patrol officer's time is spent answering these
calls, other duties
include selective traffic enforcement, home and business checks, follow-up
investigations, and general patrol.
Additionally, patrol officers
spend time performing "park and walks". They make an effort
to meet residents and members of the business community. By doing this, our
officers
can learn a great deal more about the needs of the community.
