Ashland Police and Wellesley Police arrested a suspect wanted for attempted murder early Tuesday morning in an apartment on Barton Road. The suspect, identified as John M. Monteiro from 199 Chestnut Street in Randolph, was wanted in connection with a shooting outside the "Fusion Bar" in Ashland that occurred on August 7. The late night incident resulted in one male being shot.
Due to the possibility of the suspect being armed and inside an apartment, the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council's (MetroLEC) SWAT team assisted in making the arrest. The suspect was placed into custody after Wellesley detectives obtained a search warrant for the apartment that Monteiro was believed to be located in. Monteiro was located and arrested without incident.
An arrest warrant for Monteiro was issued on August 10 from Framingham District Court for the following charges:
1. Assault and Battery Dangerous Weapon (Firearm)
2. Assault to Murder--Firearm
3. Malicious Destruction of Property Over $250
4. Disturbing the Peace
5. Posses Firearm Without an FID Card
Monteiro was transported to Wellesley Police after being placed into custody and then to Ashland Police. He will be arraigned in Framingham District Court on August 11.
