Parade Road Closures on Sunday, May 22

On Sunday, May 22, 2011 the annual Wellesley parade will be held.  The parade starts at 1:00 PM on Washington Street at Route 9.  The route then travels on Washington Street westbound to Central Street in Wellesley Square, and ends on the Crest Road bridge. 


As a result of the parade, the following road closures will be in effect on Sunday, May 22:

11:45 AM:  Washington Street closed to westbound traffic at Oakland Street.  Traffic will be detoured to Route 9.  Washington Street will be closed from the Route 9 east ramp to Oakland Street to all traffic.


12:30 PM:  Washington Street will be closed from Route 9 to Central Street.  Central Street will be closed from Grove Street to Crest Road.  Crest Road will be closed from Linden to Central Street.


In addition, there will be NO PARKING on the parade route.  No parking signs will be posted and vehicles on the parade route WILL BE TOWED.


Washington Street will be open to traffic at approximately 3:30 PM, as the parade ends.  The Wellesley Police Department will send alerts via email and text message when the route closes and subsequently is opened to traffic.

On Sunday evening, there will be a picnic on Hunnewell Field (Washington Street between State and Rice Streets) followed by a fireworks show when it becomes dark. 


During the fireworks, traffic on Washington Street from Forest Street to State Street will be  closed and detoured. Rice Street will also be closed from Paine to Washington Street.  The roads are expected to be closed at 8:45 PM and then opened up at approximately 9:45 PM.


Once again, the Wellesley Police Department will notify citizens via email and text messages when these road closures take place, and when the road is opened again.
