 The Wellesley Police Department responded to a serious traffic crash in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 17, 2012. Just after 4:30 AM, Officer Tim Barros was dispatched to the area of Route 9 near Route 128 for a reported one car crash with injuries.

 
When Officer Barros arrived on the scene, he found a single car had struck the median barrier.  Four people were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.  Additional Wellesley Police officers responded to the scene along with the Wellesley Fire Department and AMR Paramedics. 
 
Crash scene on Rt. 9.  Photo by Lieutenant Marie ClearyDue to the extensive damage to the vehicle, the victims were trapped inside the car.  Wellesley firefighters utilized the jaws of life to free the victims from inside the vehicle.  Once extricated from the car
two of the four people involved in the crash were transported to Boston hospitals.  The two other passengers stated they were not hurt and refused medical treatment.
 
A preliminary investigation by Officer Barros revealed that the vehicle was traveling
eastbound on Route 9 when it struck a barrier, and crossed over into the westbound lanes near SunLife.  There were no other vehicles involved in the crash and there was no traffic at the time of the incident. 
 
Officer Barros is still investigating the incident, and does expect to file charges against the driver for various motor vehicle violations.
