On July 11, 2012 at approximately 2:15 AM, the Wellesley Police Department responded to a one car crash on Route 9 near Wellesley Fire Headquarters.  Officer Scott Wagner, Officer Tim Barros, and Sergeant Jeff Renzella all responded to the crash on the westbound side of Route 9 at the Gulf gas station.

On arrival, the officers found a vehicle that had gone off the road and into a gas pump at the Gulf station.  A concrete barrier in front of the gas pump prevented it from being seriously damaged.  The operator of the vehicle was not injured, but was evaluated by the paramedics.

Damage to the gas pump. WPD Staff Photo/Officer Tim BarrosOfficer Scott Wagner investigated the crash and determined the operator fell asleep at the wheel while traveling westbound on Route 9.  The vehicle left the roadway just after Fire Headquarters, struck a light pole (bringing it down), and subsequently went through the parking lot to the Gulf station, where it struck the gas pump.  The Gulf station was closed at the time of the incident.

Officer Wagner will be charging the driver of the vehicle with negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
