Type:  announcements

The Wellesley Police Department welcomes our newest police officer, Travis Dixon.

Officer Dixon grew up in the town of Dedham and was employed by the Boston College Police Department as a patrolman prior to joining WPD.  While he was at the  Boston College Police Department, he was responsible for the safety of the students, the security of the interior and exterior of the school buildings, and responding to medical calls on campus. Officer Dixon was also involved in BC's community policing initiatives and had been paired with dormitory resident assistants who hold events with the student population to break down barriers with the students.  He has also received specialized training as a mountain bicycle officer and Rape Aggression Defense training which he utilized to further his relationships with the student population and faculty when he worked at Boston College.

Officer Dixon has a B.S. in Criminal Justice from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and also completed an internship with the Dedham District Court Probation Department during college.

Officer Dixon has already attended a full time municipal police academy, and has begun the Wellesley Police Department's Field Training Program.  This program pairs Officer Dixon with a senior Wellesley Police Department Field Training Officer (FTO) who will teach Officer Dixon how to operate in a municipal police department.  The FTO program lasts for at least three months.
