Wellesley Police Investigate Fatal Bike Crash

UPDATED JOINT RELEASE OF THE WELLESLEY POLICE DEPARTMENT AND NORFOLK COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE

The Wellesley Police Department in conjunction with the Massachusetts State Police and the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office are continuing to investigate a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a cyclist which occurred on Friday, August 24, 2012 at 1:58 p.m. on Weston Road near the intersection of Linden Street. Both the cyclist and the vehicle were reportedly traveling north on Weston Road at the time of the crash. The vehicle involved in the crash left the scene and was last seen travelling north on Weston Road.  
 
The cyclist, Alexander Motsenigos, a 41 year old Wellesley resident, sustained serious life threatening injuries during the crash and was transported from the scene to Newton Wellesley Hospital. Mr. Motsenigos was wearing a bicycle safety helmet at the time of the crash.  
 
The Wellesley Police Department is urging anyone who was in the area of Weston Road, Linden Street or Wellesley Square at the time of the crash and who may have observed the incident to please contact the Wellesley Police Department at 781-235-1212.

JOINT RELEASE OF THE WELLESLEY POLICE DEPARTMENT AND NORFOLK COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE
 
August 24, 2012:
 
On Friday, August 24, 2012 at 1:58 p.m. the Wellesley Police Department’s Emergency Communication Center received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting a motor vehicle crash involving a cyclist. The Wellesley Police Department, Fire Department and AMR paramedics responded to the scene. The vehicle involved was traveling north on Weston Road and reportedly struck the cyclist who was also traveling north on Weston Road near the intersection of Linden Street. The vehicle did not stop and was last seen headed north on Weston Road.  
 
The cyclist was unresponsive upon the arrival of emergency personnel and was transported from the scene to Newton Wellesley Hospital. The cyclist, a Wellesley resident in his 40’s was wearing a safety helmet at the time of the crash.   The name of the cyclist is not being released at this time until all the proper notifications can be made.
 
Detectives from the Wellesley Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police, the Motor Vehicle Homicide Unit of the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office and The Wellesley Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team are investigating the crash.
 
We are in the very early stages of the investigation and investigators are working on obtaining a description of the vehicle involved.
