3:00 PM WMLP is continuing to restore power to many of the smaller outages in Wellesley. The DPW continues to clear trees and debris from major roadways, some smaller road ways still have a significant amount of debris. Use caution when driving on the smaller roads.
10:30 AM: The RDF has reported they will remain open until 3:45 PM today and tomorrow to take storm debris.
Route 9 east at Kingsbury Street, which had major flooding, has been pumped out by Mass DOT and WPD this morning. Streets continue to be blocked due to trees down, but the DPW is on working these.
The WMLP reports that most power has been restored townwide. The few outages that remain are very small and effect less than 10 customers in the area. Most of these are the result of ongoing repairs to telephone and utility poles that were destroyed by the storm.
The largest area still without power is the Crown Ridge Road area. This should be done by noon and effects 30 customers. Boulevard Road and the Overbrook Drive area should be finished by 3PM. Everything else should be done by noon. Should there be any changes or major updates, WMLP and WPD will advise.
Another update will be posted later today.
MONDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2012:
9:50 PM: School has been canceled in Wellesley for Tuesday, October 30, 2012.
9:20 PM WMLP estimates that at peak, they had 1700 customers in Wellesley without power. By 9PM most of these should be fixed or close to being fixed. The remaining 200 customers (scattered throughout town) should be repaired by midnight. Please call in any power outages to WMLP at 781-235-7600 and dial 0.
The DPW estimates that clean up will continue through the rest of the week. Many of the side streets that have trees down will be removed tomorrow (Tuesday) by the DPW.
5:40 PM The Wellesley Police, Fire and Municipal Light Plant are working several major power outages throughout Wellesley. Most of these are due to trees taking down telephone poles and wires. The damage is very serious throughout Wellesley and it is unlikely that it will be repaired shortly. The power will most likely be out for several hours, and may not be repaired until tomorrow. We will continue to send out updates as we can and when we get more information. Many of these wires coming down have started fires in the street.
7:40 PM DPW/Park and Tree are in the process of removing the numerous trees that are down blocking roads. This is an extensive process which we expect to last through the night and into tomorrow. WMLP is also starting the process of replacing telephone poles and wires that are down. Many areas of town are without power. We will have an update later this evening on the extent of the outages and estimated time of repair.
The streets still remain blocked with debris and downed wires. Please do not venture out if you do not have to.
We have stopped our live stream for the evening. This may be turned back on in the morning depending on the extent of damage.

There are numerous trees down all over town, including trees that have struck houses and are blocking streets. Efforts are being made to keep the main roads open, however motorists should not travel on the streets unless it is absolutely necessary.
2:50 PM: The Wellesley Police, Fire, and Electric Light Departments are responding to LIVE electrical wires and trees down all over Wellesley. Many roads, including Washington Street and Route 9 have become flooded.
Please do NOT approach any type of wires down. Trees have blocked many of the side streets, and it will be an extended period of time before they are removed.
The Wellesley Police Department strongly urges people to stay off the roads at this time.
12:50 PM: High winds are starting to bring trees down across town. River Street and Maurice Road both had large trees come down across the road. The Park and Tree Department is on scene removing the trees. There are no major power outages in town and there is no flooding.
7:45 AM: The traffic lights are still out at Rt. 9 and Oakland Street, however, traffic town wide is very light. There have been no other weather related incidents. WPD officers on patrol have noted that there are many political signs on front lawns which appear to want to take flight with high winds. The next update will be at noon unless there is an incident prior to that.
6:10 AM: WMLP reports multiple streets without power from Forest Street to the Cedar Street area on the south side of Route 9. This is most likely due to a transformer malfunction. The traffic lights at Oakland Street and Route 9 are also out. At 6:20 AM WMLP reports all power has been restored.
5:00 AM: Although the winds have picked up since midnight, there have been no incidents to report. Some trees and wires have come down in surrounding towns, but otherwise it has been very quiet.
MIDNIGHT: No public schools in Wellesley due to the storm. |
